An exploding battery pack or laptop computer that overheated could be the cause of the fire that erupted on an Air Busan Airbus A321 airplane at Gimhae International Airport in Busan, South Korea, on Tuesday night, destroying the plane and resulting in seven people being injured.
Dramatic eyewitness videos taken by passengers and airport staff during the evacuation of Air Busan flight BX391 on January 28 revealed how quickly flames engulfed the single-aisle aircraft as it was preparing for departure for Hong Kong.
The passengers had just boarded the plane at around 10:15 pm on Tuesday when some witnesses say they heard crackling sounds coming from an overhead locker at the rear of the plane. A short time later, smoke started to pour out into the cabin.

(Macao) Reports from mainland media on 5th January indicate that a VietJet Air Airbus A321, operating flight VJ5530, encountered a serious incident shortly after departing Nha Trang for Macao on 3rd January. The aircraft’s cabin began to fill with smoke, prompting an urgent return to Nha Trang.
The flight took off from Nha Trang Airport at 5pm local time, but passengers soon detected a strong odour of fuel, leading to widespread panic. Many were heard crying and shouting for the flight to turn back. The aircraft successfully landed back at Nha Trang at 5.16pm that same day. The number of passengers on board and the specific cause of the incident remain undisclosed.

Calgary Fire crews responded to a lithium-ion battery pack fire at the Calgary International Airport at 0942 this morning. On arrival crews found the airline staff had evacuated and closed off the affected area. The battery pack burned itself out and there were no injuries and minimal damage to the flooring of the lounge. Maintenance staff cleared the area of smoke by utilizing the building’s ventilation system.

Passengers on a plane about to take off at Montreal-Pierre Elliott Trudeau International Airport were forced off their aircraft after smoke was spotted coming from a piece of equipment near a gate.
Montreal airport (ADM) spokesperson Eric Forest said it was a “minor incident” after smoke was reported in a preconditioned air unit (PCA) used to send air onto the plane while it’s parked.
“As a precautionary measure, our security measures were activated,” said Forest. “The aircraft’s passengers were evacuated, moved to another gate.”
No flames were spotted and the fire service unit responded and took control of the matter.

Republic Airways 3439, operating as a United Express flight from Newark to Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport, departed around 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, then returned around 5 p.m. after crewmembers detected the smell of smoke in the cockpit, according to Republic Airways.
The airline says the plane, an Embraer E170, landed safely and taxied to a ramp area where a precautionary evacuation was conducted by the crew. Passengers and crewmembers were then taken to the Terminal C via a bus.

The incident occurred as the Boeing 777 was flying at an altitude of 33,000 feet about 425 nautical miles northwest of Vancouver, according to reports from the Aviation Herald.
In response to the alert, the flight crew issued a Mayday call and made preparations for an emergency landing in Vancouver, the nearest suitable location. They promptly rerouted and aimed for a safe landing, prioritizing the well-being of everyone on board. However, the fire alarm was later deactivated, allowing the crew to reduce the emergency level to a PAN PAN, indicating a decrease in urgency.

A group of Frontier Airlines passengers say they were kept on board a smoke-filled plane for nearly an hour in a lawsuit filed last week.
The 19 plaintiffs were among the 197 people on board Flight 1326 from San Diego to Las Vegas on October 5.
According to the National Transportation Safety Board’s preliminary report into the incident, the Airbus A321 was arriving at Las Vegas’ Harry Reid International Airport when it suffered a brake fire. Photos and video of the incident show smoke and flames coming from the aircraft.
The flight’s first officer told investigators that, shortly before descent, the cabin crew detected an odour in the cabin, which was then smelled in the cockpit, too.
The report added that after the pilots declared an emergency, their display screens were limited, and they had some difficulty communicating with air traffic control.

On Sunday, Nov. 24 at approximately 9:34 p.m. local time, the engine of the Sukhoi Superjet 100 aircraft operated by Azimuth Airlines — which had departed from Sochi in Russia carrying 95 people — caught fire after its arrival at Antalya Airport in Turkey, the Associated Press reported, citing Turkey’s transportation ministry.
Video footage of the incident was published by the aviation news website, Airport Haber, on X (formerly known as Twitter), and showed passengers exiting the plane via its emergency slide as smoke and flames billowed from the aircraft.

It was all hands on deck at Burlington’s airport Saturday afternoon. Police, firefighters and EMS were on scene for what police say was a Phase 5 situation on one of the flights.
Officers on scene said they were called to the Patrick Leahy Burlington International Airport because passengers on a flight from Washington, D.C., smelled something unusual on the plane, so it had to land. Officers were told that there was smoke in the cockpit.
Police said everyone got off the plane okay and emergency vehicles were able to clear out. Officers said they were called as a precautionary measure.

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — A fault in a fan unit was detected about 20 minutes before a Frontier flight caught fire upon landing in Las Vegas, according to a National Transportation Safety Board preliminary report.
On Oct. 5 around 3:10 p.m., Frontier Airlines flight 1326 from San Diego to Las Vegas made a hard landing at Harry Reid International Airport, resulting in a brake fire during the landing, the report said.
Just prior to the top of descent, the cabin crew advised the flight deck of an odor in the front part of the plane. The odor was described as a chemical smell that was “difficult to identify.” Shortly after the cabin crew smelled the odor in the cockpit and initially described it as “mildew-like” however, it became increasingly pungent and ended up smelling like burning rubber, according to the report.

SPOKANE, Wash. – A UPS plane en route from Spokane had to make an unexpected return due to a fire in the cargo hold. The Boeing 767 was about to reach Missoula, Montana, around 7:00 a.m. when the incident occurred.
Fortunately, the aircraft landed safely at Spokane International Airport. There were two people on board, and neither were injured.

Plane passengers ran to safety after a power bank caught fire in an airport jet bridge.
A video of the incident obtained by PEOPLE, showed frightened passengers fleeing as smoke filled the passageway at Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport on Sunday, Oct. 20.
In the footage, other travelers viewed the smoke on the bridge from behind clear doors as an airport crew member could be seen communicating the issue on a walkie-talkie.
The clip also shows what appears to be where the fire originated — one of the passenger’s backpacks, which emitted thick smoke. According to the Associated Press, the power bank had been inside the backpack when it caught fire.

Rome (CNN) — More than 180 people were evacuated Thursday from a Ryanair Boeing passenger jet after it caught fire while taxiing to take off at Brindisi Airport in southern Italy.
The incident comes two days after a tire blowout on another of the airline’s Boeing planes during landing led to the temporary closure of Milan Bergamo Airport.
A spokesperson for the airport in Brindisi confirmed there had been a fire that halted air traffic for several hours.

Air France flight AF1062 from Paris CDG to Stockholm Arlanda (Airbus A320 with registration F-GKXC) carrying approximately 170 passengers raised an alarm for smoke in the cabin just before landing at Stockholm’s Arlanda Airport. Oxygen masks were deployed, and 12 emergency service units were dispatched to the scene.
Despite the initial concerns, the plane landed safely at 18:40, with no visible smoke remaining on board. The aircraft landed safely back on Bogota’s runway 14L about 3:25 hours after departure.
