(Macao) Reports from mainland media on 5th January indicate that a VietJet Air Airbus A321, operating flight VJ5530, encountered a serious incident shortly after departing Nha Trang for Macao on 3rd January. The aircraft’s cabin began to fill with smoke, prompting an urgent return to Nha Trang.
The flight took off from Nha Trang Airport at 5pm local time, but passengers soon detected a strong odour of fuel, leading to widespread panic. Many were heard crying and shouting for the flight to turn back. The aircraft successfully landed back at Nha Trang at 5.16pm that same day. The number of passengers on board and the specific cause of the incident remain undisclosed.
