PILOT DEPARTED BASE WITH NO CREW ON BOARD. SHORTLY AFTER DEPARTURE HE SMELLED FUEL IN CABIN AND PERFORMED A PRECAUTIONARY LANDING AT LOCAL MUNICIPAL AIRFIELD. PILOT SHUT DOWN AND CHECKED AIRCRAFT WITH NO DEFECTS OR SMELLS PRESENT. HE CONTINUED ON HIS FLIGHT WITH NO OTHER SMELL OR DISCREPANCY NOTED.
