An Air Canada flight from Las Vegas to Toronto was forced to make an emergency landing at Des Moines International Airport on April 16, 2025, after smoke was detected in the cockpit of the Airbus A321 aircraft. The flight, operating as AC1702, was carrying 176 passengers at the time of the incident.

The aircraft, which had been en route to Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ), was diverted to Des Moines International Airport (DSM) out of an abundance of caution after the crew members reported a smoke smell in the flight deck. Following standard emergency procedures, the aircraft landed safely at 4:00 PM local time without incident. Fortunately, there were no injuries reported, and all passengers were safely evacuated from the plane.
